I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to vacation with my family in Breckenridge, Colorado over the break. We decided not to exchange gifts this year, which had been our custume, and instead fly to our favorite skiing destination. It will be our last vacation together before my daughter Kristen gets married in April. It was wonderful. I will post some of my favorite pictures of the Rocky Mountains later in the week.
This is a time in PA when we are busy tieing up loose ends in our curriculum units. It has been so much fun studying the ancient Maya, Egyptian and Chinese cultures, as well as the vast ocean, that I hate to see it come to an end. The fifth graders chose a topic, worked with a partner and created a Power Point, poster or model to share what they learned with the class. They did a great job. Look to see their visuals or hard copy; they are quite interesting and very creative. The fourth graders are working on creating Power Point slides of their own. After weeks researching whales, they are compiling their information and we are in process of creating a class Power Point. Again, a hard copy of the presentation will be coming home soon. Third grade is about to conclude their unit on Ancient Egypt. It has been fascinating. We will be revisiting this unit at the very end of the year. Last, but not least, our second graders are immersed in Ancient China, studying the geography, social structure, and beliefs of this culture. Today, they compared the homes, food and clothing of the Ancient Chinese (rich and poor) with that of contemporary US. It's been a great exercise in learning.
